DataCommons.org aims to do with data what Google Maps did with addresses: make a diverse and confusing array of information usable under a single search bar.
This is achieved by incorporating public data, standardizing it, and then providing ways for non-technical people to access that information.
As TechSoup's partner in Latin America, Makaia participated in the development of a microsite to leverage the introduction of Data Commons as a tool for data democratization.
The project seeks to demonstrate how Data Commons can be used to track international development issues, drawing on data from public and private entities and civil society organizations. Likewise, the use of Data Commons allows social impact organizations to communicate the need to act where gaps exist.
