The Digital Action Lab (DAL) is a global initiative promoted in partnership with CIVICUS within the Digital Democracy Initiative

Its purpose is to strengthen civil society organizations in countries of the Global South, especially those operating in contexts with limitations on civic space, by equipping them with digital capabilities to amplify their social impact, democratic participation, and institutional sustainability.

Who benefits from the Digital Action Lab?

The program benefits social organizations in different countries: in its first phase, entities in Nigeria, Kyrgyzstan, Zambia, Nepal, Kenya, Indonesia, Lebanon, Colombia, and Venezuela
These organizations receive training and specialized support in strategic areas such as:

  • Institutional vision and strategy

  • Organizational culture

  • Technological infrastructure

  • Operations and internal management

  • Marketing, communications, and digital advocacy.

How does it work?

The Digital Action Lab supports social organizations through a process that begins with a digital maturity diagnosis to identify gaps and opportunities. They then receive specialized training and consulting on strategic issues to strengthen their digital vision, organizational culture, technological infrastructure, and communication and advocacy capabilities. Selected organizations gain access to a fund to implement technological solutions tailor-made, and participate in spaces for co-creation and learning among peers that promote collaboration, the exchange of experiences, and the joint creation of digital solutions with social impact.

Results

  • Successful implementation of tools for secure backups and improved connectivity across multiple participating organizations, ensuring long-term efficiency and security.

  • Development of customized marketing and SEO plans to improve visibility and engagement on platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.

  • Several organizations accessed platforms such as TechSoup and Google Ad Grants, optimizing resources and securing low-cost digital tools.

  • Collaborative learning sessions allowed participants to share experiences and strengthen their knowledge of digital transformation, security, and online communication.
