The STEM research hotbed It is a training process designed to strengthen the cognitive and digital skills that are essential today for accessing educational and employment opportunities in the IT sector.
Through a methodology based on critical thinking, numerical reasoning, reading comprehension y life skills, We accompany young people as they discover their digital vocation and continue on more advanced training paths in technology.
STEM refers to the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, At Makaia, we approach this through active learning experiences that connect knowledge with real challenges in the social and work environment.
What is the purpose of the STEM Seedbed?
In Colombia, only 4 out of 10 young people manage to access higher education, and only 20 % of those who apply for advanced IT training programs advance in the admission tests. Furthermore, although women represent a significant portion of the student population, only on the 17th % access STEM careers or jobs.
The STEM Seedbed seeks to close gaps at the grassroots level, helping people strengthen essential skills for their transition to technical, technological, or higher education. With this early reinforcement, their opportunities to continue training and employment paths in technology are expanded.
How does the STEM Seedbed work?
The STEM Seedbed offers learning paths to strengthen cognitive and digital skills in two formats: in person y virtual. Both share the same essence: active learning, development of life skills, and ongoing support.
In-person route: STEM strengthening with direct support
In his in-person version, the STEM Seedbed It is developed through an intensive training process with practical sessions focused on:
- Critical thinking and problem solving.
- Numerical reasoning and reading comprehension.
- Computational thinking and 21st-century skills.
- Basic technological tools for the IT sector.
Through active methodologies, practical activities, and collaborative work, fundamental skills are strengthened, enabling young people to continue on vocational or technological training paths, including access to the BeTek Bootcamp.
Virtual route: asynchronous learning through the Makedu platform
The virtual tour of the STEM Seedbed is developed through the platform Makedu, which allows young people to strengthen their digital and critical thinking skills in a flexible, autonomous way, at their own pace, and with certification at no cost.
The first step for participants is to complete a self-diagnosis on the platform, which marks their starting point, and they can take the courses at:
- Numerical and critical reasoning: to master operations, analyze data, and make more logical decisions.
- Applied reading analysis: with techniques to better understand texts and strengthen critical thinking.
- Life skills: Strategies for developing emotional intelligence, self-awareness, and better interpersonal relationships.
